NIB finances productivity upgrades at Koskisen’s Järvelä sawmill and panel production
The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has signed a 7-year loan with Koskisen Corporation to co‑finance the next phase of growth at the company’s Järvelä sawmill and panel production in Finland.
The EUR 12 million loan supports capacity upgrades that will increase sawn timber output from about 400,000 m³ towards 450,000 m³ and plywood production from 65,000 m³ to 80,000 m³.
The investment programme includes new channel dryers that expand drying capacity by approximately 15% and enhance product quality, a briquette production line in sawn timber production, as well as core composer and scarf jointing lines to modernise panel production.
The improvements will cut waste, create a new revenue stream from briquettes, and deliver efficiency gains across operations.
Jukka Pahta, CEO of Koskisen, said: “It is great that NIB supports the implementation of the company’s growth strategy. The investments now being financed are part of a programme aimed at reaching a revenue level of €500 million by the end of 2027. At the same time, new products and new technology will help us improve both productivity and material efficiency.”
Kim Krokfors, Senior Banker: “NIB sees it as important to support targeted productivity gains that strengthens long-term competitiveness in the sawn timber sector. Financing modern drying and briquette capacity also supports higher productivity with lower waste.”
Koskisen Corporation is a Finnish wood‑processing company founded in 1909. The company employs some one thousand professionals.
