Stora Enso to close Gruvön CLT production by the end of 2026
Stora Enso has decided to permanently close its cross-laminated timber (CLT) production unit at Gruvön in Sweden by the end of 2026. The decision affects approximately 80 positions. Sawn timber deliveries from Gruvön will continue as usual.

The company announced plans to discontinue CLT production at Gruvön sawmill in September. Negotiations concerning the closure have now concluded, and Stora Enso has decided to proceed.
According to the company, profitability at the unit has been weakened by slower-than-expected market growth in recent years, rising wood costs and relatively high fixed production costs.
“This has been a difficult decision. I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Gruvön CLT and sales teams for their commitment and valuable contributions over the years. Our priority is to support the employees affected by the closure,” says Jonas Lindqvist, Head of Business Unit Skoghall at Stora Enso.
The company will work with its other sites and relevant stakeholders to explore new employment opportunities. Support will include relocation assistance, career transition coaching and opportunities to move to other Stora Enso locations.
Although the closure decision has been made, negotiations concerning the impact on personnel will continue. No redundancies will be implemented before those negotiations have concluded.
Stora Enso describes itself as Europe’s largest CLT producer. It will continue to serve CLT customers from its production units in Ždírec in the Czech Republic and Ybbs and Bad St. Leonhard in Austria.
