Metsä Board to begin talks on possible temporary layoffs at Joutseno and Kaskinen mills

Around 120 employees at Metsä Board’s two Finnish pulp mills are covered by the talks. Any temporary layoffs could last more than 90 days and take place in several periods during 2027.

Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, is preparing for the possibility that it may need to adjust production temporarily to match demand. Both mills produce bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP).

In its announcement on 4 November, the company said the talks would begin no earlier than the week of 2 November and were expected to last three weeks.

If temporary layoffs go ahead, the company expects to determine during 2027 how many employees would be affected, which roles would be involved and when the layoffs would take place.
