Volvo Trucks electric range wins International Truck of the Year 2027 award
Volvo Trucks’ heavy-duty all-electric range has been named International Truck of the Year 2027. The award-winning line-up covers a wide variety of transport applications, from urban distribution to demanding long-haul operations, with a driving range of up to 700 kilometres.
The award-winning range includes the Volvo FH Electric, FM Electric, FMX Electric and FH Aero Electric. Compared with previous models, the new electric trucks offer increased driving range, improved payload capacity and reduced charging times.
The range is designed for demanding regional and long-haul transport, city distribution, construction operations, as well as utility and infrastructure work.
The International Truck of the Year jury particularly praised Volvo’s development of its electric portfolio beyond individual vehicles and applications to cover a broad range of transport needs. The jury also highlighted the increased driving range, various cab and chassis configurations and the ability to tailor the trucks to different transport assignments.
“The Volvo Trucks winning range represents a major evolution of their battery-electric heavy-duty offering. With the new electric range, the company demonstrates how quickly battery-electric heavy-duty transport is moving from individual applications towards a comprehensive transport solution,” says Florian Engel, Chairman of the International Truck of the Year jury.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, accepted the award at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover, Germany.

This award proves that Volvo Trucks is a trusted industry leader within electromobility. The new range makes it possible for even more operations to choose zero tailpipe emission transport,” Alm says.
500 million kilometres driven on electric power
Since 2019, 7,000 Volvo electric trucks have driven a combined 500 million kilometres worldwide, according to Volvo Trucks. Today, nearly 2,000 customers in more than 50 countries use Volvo electric trucks in their daily operations.
Volvo Trucks’ complete electric offering consists of eight truck models designed for a wide variety of transport assignments. During seven years of electrification, the company says it has built extensive expertise in optimising energy use, charging and servicing of electric trucks.
Eighth International Truck of the Year win for Volvo
The International Truck of the Year organisation was founded in 1977 and its jury consists of 24 commercial vehicle journalists representing major European trucking publications. The annual award recognises the truck introduced to the market during the previous 12 months that has made the most significant contribution to road transport efficiency.
The assessment covers factors including technological innovation, comfort, safety, drivability, energy efficiency, environmental impact and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
The 2027 award marks Volvo Trucks’ eighth International Truck of the Year victory. The Volvo FH Electric also won the award in 2024. Volvo’s previous wins came in 2014, 2000, 1994, 1986, 1984 and 1979.
The stated driving range of up to 700 kilometres depends on factors including weather conditions, aerodynamic resistance, the truck’s gross weight and driving style.
