Scania G- and R-series achieve five-star Euro NCAP ratings

Scania’s G-series and R-series have received five-star ratings in Euro NCAP’s haulage assessment. The trucks achieved a 96 percent score for crash avoidance, with Euro NCAP highlighting their driver assistance systems, visibility and collision avoidance technologies.

The assessment covered the Scania R-series 4x2 tractor and 6x2 rigid as well as the G-series 4x2 tractor and 6x2 rigid.

Although the G- and R-series are designed for different long-haulage and regional transport applications, they share Scania’s approach to safety, combining direct visibility, driver comfort and vehicle control with advanced driver assistance systems.

Euro NCAP’s haulage assessment focuses on heavy vehicles used in long-haul and highway-oriented operations. Scania’s G- and R-series feature Speed Sign Cruise Control (SSCC) and Curve Speed Cruise Control (CSCC), which complement systems such as Safe Stop Assist (SSA).

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and the Vulnerable Road User Brake System (VRUBS) contributed strongly to the trucks’ 96 percent crash avoidance score.

“Safety in long-haulage starts with supporting the driver. Visibility, comfort, driver assistance, and vehicle control all contribute to safer operations. The G-series and R-series show how Scania adapts these strengths to different transport assignments, while keeping the driver environment familiar,” says Lars Gustafsson, Head of Trucks at Scania.

R-series praised for collision avoidance

Euro NCAP highlighted the R-series for its performance in Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance. Optional camera monitor systems improve front-corner visibility and help reduce driver workload.

The organisation also noted the R-series’ range of crash avoidance technologies, including AEB designed to help avoid collisions with other vehicles, two-wheelers and pedestrians.

The G-series was recognised for its balanced safety performance. Its lower cab, deep windows and low belt line provide good direct visibility, particularly in mixed transport environments.

Both the G- and R-series also received Euro NCAP’s City Safe Award.

The latest ratings follow earlier five-star results for Scania’s L- and P-series, meaning the manufacturer has now achieved five-star Euro NCAP ratings across a broader range of its cab line-up.

The G- and R-series are part of Scania’s modular system, providing a familiar layout, controls and working environment across different models. Vehicles can be configured with safety systems and cab specifications according to their intended transport application.
